Westhoughton Juniors 2 6 Whelley Athletic JFC

Whelley clinched the title on a gorgeous Wednesday night with some scintillating football.Whelley were three up at half time but chances from Ryan and Tom were saved well by the Whelley keeper and it could have easily been three two at half time.Whelley hit another three in the second half but Westhoughton were not to be outdone and scored two crackers late on from Ryan and Wes.Only excellent defending from the ever reliable Molly and Nick kept the score down.

Whelley were worthy Champions and both parents and children were excellent.Man of the match for Westhoughton was Ryan who just cant stop scoring. The season finally comes to a close with an away fixture on Saturday against H.S.M Spartans.

Bromley Cross Aces v Hindsford Jets

Report:

Bromley Cross Champions ......but oh what a season...

The season went down to the last game. The mathematics simple. One point for the Aces to clinch the title or lose and risk being in a 3 way play off for the title.

From the start Hindsford Jets took the game to Bromley Cross. The Aces created a few early chances but the visitors were soon on top attacking with pace and great positional awareness. The Aces were panicking, They had forgotten the dominant footballing skills which had seen them win 5 on the bounce whilst only conceding 2 goals all against top opposition. Instead it was the jets who seemed to want the title more and their attacking endeavours paid dividends as the half drew to a close. A half clearance from the Aces saw the ball played out to the left where the Jets pounced and deservedly buried the ball in the net to take the lead. The jets looked for a second but only a top class diving save kept them at bay. Tom in goal was inspired as he drew deserved applause from all watching. It was a save which turned the game. The Aces were looking for half time to regroup but at that moment the Jets seemingly thinking they would be taking a lead into the second half were caught out of position and Sam made them pay. The Aces have become used to sams dribbling skills this season and he wriggled through the jets stretched defence to put home an equaliser against the run of play with what was literally the last kick of the half.

The Aces were blowing and sweating, lots of hard work but a total lack of cohesion. This was not a time for harsh words but more of a reality check. They were told to remember the football they played against a strong Boothstown team, to remember how they played with skill and bravery against against a tough Hindley team but ultimately to trust in each other and to hold their positions.

If football can ever e described as a game of two halves then this was it. The Aces all fired up lost possesion at the kick off and found themsleves 1-2 down after only 30 seconds of the restart.

All the Managers talk was of no use, it would be up to the boys to respond, and respond they did. They picked themselves up from the set back and went about playing football like champions elect. gradually the flowing game returned and the second balls were won. The tackles which they pulled out of in the first half were a distant memory as the Aces started to build momentum.

James went off injured within 5 minutes of the restart. Ewan returned from a short break and within 2 minutes hit a goalbound shot from 10 yds which the diving legs of defenders and keeper could not stop. Game level and Aces feeling positive again. The energy had returned and at this point the first moments of doubt seemed to cross the visitors minds. A half clearance from more Aces pressure saw Tom smash a clearnace from the half way line....the trajectory and accuaracy totally misfooted the keeper as it found its way into the corner of the net..Aces 3-2 Hindsford.

Knowing that they had to score 2 more the jets pushed on valiantly but this only played into the hands of the Aces. Caught on the break the Aces pounced and James found himself picking up the pieces in the box to give the home team a comfortable cushion. ... the minutes ticked down and an Aces team missing 3 players kept going. players were roatated through positions to ensure fresh legs and then with the game nearly over one final attack saw james 1 on 1 with the keeper. He had a choice to shoot but realising the decision would see the title come to Bromley Cross he cooly waited for the keeper to move out to block the shot before squaring the ball to Jack for a cool tap in.

The final whistle followed and the Aces confrimed as 2008 Champions.

Credit to the boys who at the final whistle did not run around like rampaging vikings...instead without any adult interference they all gathered in a circle arms around each other congratulating each other in a mature and dignified fashion. They played the season with integrity and honor, never let themsleves down and the scenes at the end filled both parents, spectators and this manager with a huge amount of pride.

Final score.... it doesnt matter

Leigh RMI U9’s started their early summer fixture congestion in their countdown to their league title challenge.

A Jordan Grant side foot pass into the net from a corner gave RMI the lead within a minute. The Kids recovered from the shock and contributed very well to an even and entertaining first half.

RMI made a couple of telling substitutions early in the second half and as the play became stretched they capitalised on the Kids mistakes. A second goal from Captain Jordan Grant and good solos from Ben Valentine, Ethan Redshaw and Lewis Reon sealed a fine win.

Firstly, congratulations to the boys from Bolton Brazilian Soccer School on winning the U11's Chairman's Cup against Hindley Junior Jets on Saturday 26th April 2008.

This year the weather was great - compared to last years torrential downpour.

Both teams played some excellent football and the atmosphere was brilliant.

Secondly, I would like to thank Simon and the boys from Hindley for a very sporting game of football, they are a credit to the game and to their parents.  It was a close game and could quite easily have gone either way.

Thanks to everybody who turned up to watch the game.

Lourdes FC v Ringley Park Rangers

Report:

Lourdes edge past Ringley in epic end of season encounter.

Lourdes F C Under 9's hosted their final match of the season against Ringley Park Rangers in what turned out to be a classic game played by 2 very determined teams.

Knowing a win would secure the D Section, Lourdes set about trying to establish an early lead, but could not find a way past the Ringley keeper.

Ringley then turned the pressure to the home team and went into a 2-0 lead, before a spirited fightback saw Lourdes draw level.

Again Ringley showed that they hadn't come to make up the numbers and went back into the lead just before half-time. (2-3)

Lourdes survived a couple of scares before again drawing level and looked to use this momentum to try and get their noses in front.

Once again though,Ringley regained the initiative and lead 4-3 with only minutes to go.

Lourdes turned the Ringley goal into the Alamo and attack after attack finally brought it reward. With time running out the equaliser gave the home team the impetus and Connor Jones popped up to prod home what turned out to be the winner.

Ringley still weren't finished and only a last gasp challenge by Rayan Saleh prevented an almost certain equaliser.

This was a fantastic game that both sets of supporters did their bit by getting behind the teams. The players put on a great finale and played football with the sporting attitude that is lacking in the professional game.

Congratulations to Lourdes for winning their division and well done to Ringley and best of look to both teams next season.

JANET AND HER TEAM WERE FANTASTIC HOSTS , THEY ORGANISED A LINE UP TO WISH US WELL DONE FOR WINNING THE DIVISION AND BECOMING CHAMPIONS , AND THEY WERE VERY SPORTING

ONCE THE BALL WAS KICKED OFF LIONS WERE ALL OVER US  , PUTTING US UNDER LOADS OF PRESSURE , WE ONLY HAD 11 LADS TODAY , THROUGH INJURES , SO IT WAS A REAL MIX AND PATCH UP JOB .

FOR ME AT TIMES IT WAS AS IF THE LADS HAD CONCEEDED JOB DONE AND LIONS TOOK FULL ADVANTAGE OF THAT , SHARKS WENT INTO HALF TIME 3-1 DOWN  AFTER LEESEY PUT THE BALL UNDER THE KEEPER , TO KEEP US IN WITH A SHOUT

AFTER  THEIR TEAM TALK ABOUT BELIEF AND DESIRE AND A COUPLE OF CHANGES INSPIRED BY COACH KYLE GILES  - IT WAS LIKE A DIFFERENT TEAM  GOING OUT , SHARKS WERE FIRST TO THE BALL , THEY PUT PRESSURE ON,  KALECHI WAS AMAZING  HE WON EVERTHING IN MIDFIELD AND MADE  LIONS No 65  INEFFECTIVE  , THEY STARTED TO KNOCK THE BALL ABOUT  - LIONS WERE NOW ON THE RECEIVING END OF THEIR OWN MAULING , IT WAS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE A GOAL CAME AND IT DID THROUGH A SUPERB EFFORT FROM LUKE W  3-2 .

I THINK THIS STUNNED LIONS  , AS THIS WAS A PROPER SHARK ATTACK AS I’VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE  , A REAL FRENZY . WE PUT THE BALL IN THE NET AGAIN ONLY TO BE AJUDGED OFFSIDE , STILL 3-2 WITH 10 MINS TO GO .

I GAVE ONE FINAL SHOUT OF PLAY TO THE LAST WHISTLE  AS IT SEEMED HEADS STARTED TO DROP , THIS WAS THE INSPIRATION SHARKS NEEDED , FOR THIS LAST 10 MINUTES THEY WERE AWSOME , WAVE AFTER WAVE OF ATTACKING FOOTBALL  BOMBARDED LIONS GOALMOUTH . THE BREAKTHROUGH CAME FROM SUPERB WORK FROM LEESEY TO PUT THE BALL ACROSS GOAL FOR JAMIE TO SLIDE IN  AND SLOT THE BALL HOME  3-3

LUKE W MADE IT 4-3 AFTER A SUPURB RUN AND INTERLINKING PLAY BY SCOTT DOWN THE RIGHT , A GREAT CROSS  FOR LUKE TO SLOT PAST THE KEEPER—I COULDN’T CONTROL MYSELF , I RAN ON THE PITCH AND GAVE THEM ALL A HUG  — LOL

Horwich RMI Bullets Whites 3 - 1 Ladybridge Athletic

 under 8s

A solid performance saw the  Bullets Whites notch up another win in blustery conditions at Rivington.  Charlie resumed his place between the sticks for this encounter with Will and Ben at the back, Chippy playing in the hole behind George and with Marcus and Adam on the wings.  The Whites were quickly into their stride from the kick-off, putting Ladybridge under some early pressure with two corners in the opening two minutes.  The roles were reversed, however, on five minutes when a Ladybridge attack was repelled by Will with a fine double clearance.

The Bullets took the lead on six minutes with a corner from the right viciously curled straight into the net from Ben.  This acted as a platform for some further Bullets pressure with Chippy shooting into the goalkeeper's arms a minute later after some good interplay with Adam on the left.  Chippy found himself through a couple of minutes later with a good shot deflected by the keeper into the side netting.  Ladybridge had their first chance of the game on 11 minutes.  The ball broke free on the edge of the area and was fired well over from the Athletic attacker.

The Whites doubled their lead on 14 minutes.  Marcus send in a fine through ball to Man of the Match George who slotted it home from an acute angle.  Mark then shuffled the team with Matty, Declan and Callum entering the arena for George, Will and Adam.  The first half petered out with a goalmouth scramble which almost saw Matty add his name to the scoresheet.

After a very quiet first half, Charlie was much more involved in the second period.  Soon after the restart, he found himself in a one-on-one with a speedy Ladybridge striker, but disaster was averted with a brave smother at the feet of the attacker.  Callum produced some fine defensive work to clear the ball on 23 minutes as holes opened up in the Bullets's defence.  Marcus was called on to produce a fine clearance on 26 minutes from a Ladybridge corner.  Ben, too, tackled well on 28 minutes to ease the pressure on Charlie's goal.  Although this opening period of the second half had also seen shots saved from Matty and Chippy, Ladybridge had had the better of things.  This period of pressure ended with Athletic pulling the score back to 2-1 after scoring on 30 minutes.

Just as it looked as if the Whites might throw away the game, their two goal buffer was immediately restored with a bullet header from Matty direct from Ben's corner.  Some observers remarked that it was the best header they had seen at this level of football.  With Will now returned to his defensive duties, the Whites once again grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and regained their composure and the latter part of the second half was a more comfortable affair than its opening 10 minutes.  Declan produced some good work on the right, forcing a corner and just before the final whistle, Mat hit the post after an excellent through ball from Ben.

The Whites retain their place at the top of the table with three more points chalked up.  But with others with games in hand, all is still to play for in the Under 8's Division A of the Bolton and Bury District Junior Football League.

Report:

Leigh RMI Youth U9’s held host to a strong Elton and Walshaw side in their quest for the Bolton/Bury League division A league title.

RMI started well and dominated the early proceedings. Chance after chance was created but the finishing touch was just not there. As the second half progressed Elton grew in confidence and looked dangerous on the counter.

RMI took the lead on the stroke of half time when Ben Valentine struck home a close range volley after a classic RMI right flank counter attack.

The second half saw RMI step up a gear and pegged the Elton defence back for long periods. Time and time again chances were not finished off and RMI paid the price when a rare Elton attack caught the RMI keeper off his line and the ball was simply passed in the back of the net.

RMI surged forward but no matter how much they tried the winner evaded them.

Report:

A quick note to congratulate Hindley Junior Jets after a 3-0 victory this evening in the U11's Chairmans Cup Semi-Final.

Despite an evenly contested recent league game, Phoenix started this game sluggishly and paid the price for not closing the ball. Hindley won every 50-50 and found themselves 2-0 up on the quarter hour. The killer third came right on half time and despite a much closer second half Phoenix only crafted one good chance as Georges shot was tipped over by the keeper.

Well done to Simon and the boys, enjoy the final, it should be a close encounter.

Bromley Cross Crusaders v Bromley Cross Diamonds

Report:

Mention “derby match” and most people think of United v City, the Old Firm or Liverpool v Everton but in Bromley Cross there is only one game that really draws the crowds on a damp Friday evening. The Crusaders second game in 3 days was the return fixture against Club rivals The Diamonds. Such was the excitement that an extra man and his dog were called in to keep rival fans apart and 2 Police Community Support Officers were seen on Blackburn Rd. The day's rain meant that the pitch had to be re-marked out on some dry ground but the match got underway on time.

The Crusaders were handicapped by losing captain Lewis J to illness and defensive stalwart Sam C to a thigh strain as well as long term absentee Jack “The Cat” and after 3 minutes they also lost Paul to a toe injury.

The result of this was a rather one-sided game with Nat and Will dominant for the Diamonds and it required a lot of very determined defending to keep the score respectable. Samuel and Lewis stuck to their task brilliantly, Bill was alert to danger, even saving with his nose, and Matthew covered every blade of grass on the pitch. Joseph gave his all as usual and Jack provided a useful outlet when ever the Crusaders won the ball. However the result was inevitable, Will helped himself to 4 of the 5 Diamonds' goals, Nat went close with a couple of free kicks and whenever the Crusaders threatened, Liam was up to the task of keeping the shots out. Paul was able to rejoin the fray in the second half and produced a couple of useful crosses, but the mountain was too big to climb and The Diamonds rode out the late rally, to finish 5-0 victors.

Bill's consolation was the MOM award for an outstanding performance in an unfamiliar position.

Horwich RMI Steamers Whites v Bromley Cross Crusaders

Report:

Rearranged from December, this game was played on a cold but sunny Sunday morning with the Crusaders having to play reserve keeper Bill in place of knee ligament victim Jack P.

The match began evenly with a few half chances to each side before a tactical change by the Crusaders produced a flurry of goals. First Paul turned in Lewis J's cross then within a minute Lewis grabbed his own from Jack A's through ball. Not wanting to be left out, Sam C scored from the half-way line with a powerful drive which surprised everyone, particularly RMI's keeper. Each side scored again in the last minute of the half for the Crusaders to lead 4-1 at the break.

The second half began as the first but this time it was RMI who seized the initiative, dominating the midfield and causing The Crusaders to lose shape and discipline. It was an open half with chances for both sides but RMI made more of theirs and were level with three minutes left of the game. This seemed to shock the Crusaders into action and a final effort brought the winning goal, a cross by Paul was picked up by Lewis J on the edge of the box, he beat two defenders before scoring in the far corner.

Final score Horwich RMI Steamers Whites 4, Bromley Cross Crusaders 5, a fine entertaining game for the neutral, hard luck on Horwich RMI and much relief for Bromley Cross.

U12 semi final 9v9 Ladybridge 3-1 Horwich St Mary’s Braves

A close game played in the right manner (parents included) despite a final place at stake.

HSM kicking into the wind started brightly enough and were surprisingly passing it around quite well.

Ladybridge scored 1st on 6 mins as winger (Sam) who went on to score all 3, skipped past 2 weak tackles and found the corner of the net.

Centre forward for LB broke away of couple of times but could find no power to test Danny in the goals.

Charlie linked well with Josh on the right and crossed for Luke to attempt to head at edge of 6 yard box but wind drifted it away from him and cross just missed the post.

HSM still passing it round well but not creating enough to test the keeper…HT 1-0

Again HSM started brightly and inspired substitution by manager (I would say that) saw Rob hit post with his 1st touch with a header reminiscent of Ronaldo last week after great corner from Josh.

LB clearly rattled as we pressed for equaliser and Tom C and Curtis linked well on left a couple of times but final shots not strong enough.

Inevitably LB broke away and after 18 mins a run from half way saw Sam score his 2nd and LB’s tails were up. They created a few more chances again and on 21 mins after a scramble in the box the ball fell to Sam to coolly slot in his 3rd.

Message to HSM was to carry on and see if things went their way as they were playing well just no real cutting edge.

Patience paid off and Tom C scored our consolation on 26 mins after good work from Charlie, Robert and Josh.

Good luck to Phil & Ladybridge in the final after a very tight game.

HSM man of match Charlie-again but everyone played well and I wish every week was a semi-final!

The 2nd half remained goaless although entertaining, both sides showing signs of a potential breakthrough although Winstanley just about shaded the chances made, both keepers pulled off some fine saves,Liam Sharkey once again showing his marked improvement between the sticks the point made with a last minute penalty save to win the game and prevent extra time.

Leigh RMI Youth U9’s had a midweek visit to Ladybridge Wolves in an effort to get a league double over their opponents.

Ladybridge were quick and determined in the tackle but RMI rose to the challenge. In an even first half only a Harry Johnson goal from a corner separated the 2 sides.

RMI enjoyed most of the second half possession and restricted Ladybridge to breakaways and deservedly notched a second when the ever dangerous Lewis Reon hit a snap shot from 10 yards out after great approach work from the RMI midfield.

To their credit the Wolves raised their game and were unlucky not to pull a goal back when one of the late raids lead to a shot hitting the post.

A really good competitive game and 3 points to RMI assisting their title challenge.

The second half started with the wind in our favour this time - no goals from the away side came. Dylan seaed the game by slotting in a further two in his trademark style.

The home fixture against Daisy Hill promised much after the hard won victory in October but despite having a full squad, The Crusaders produced a somewhat lacklustre performance. Daisy Hill scored early and again at the end of each half with Jack A scoring the only goal in reply. Sam produced his usual assured game in defence, there were some flashes from the front three of Matthew, Lewis and Paul and Jack P produced a brilliant one-handed save in the second half, but overall the lads did not do enough to deserve a draw.

Jack A was awarded Man of the Match for a lively performance (and his first goal for the Crusaders) and it was while he was on the pitch that The Crusaders played best, dominating midfield but without being able to breach the Blues' defence. The best chances came when both Lewis and Matthew uncharacteristically wasted good chances in front of goal, Lewis shooting just wide and Matthew straight at the keeper.

Final score- Crusaders 1, Blues 3

Whites celebrate double over Aspull                                               15th March  08

Horwich RMI Bullets Whites 2-1 Aspull Juniors    U8s

The Bullets continued their push for the league title by completing the double over their long time rivals, Aspull Juniors, in a game  characterised by passion, commitment and controversy.  With Adam not available for selection, Dale shuffled his pack and opted for George up front with Matty on the right wing and Marcus on the left.  And George very nearly repaid the coach's selection with a goal in the opening 20 seconds.  A mis-kicked clearance in his own penalty area by an Aspull defender saw George close down the goalkeeper and push the ball onto the post.  In fact, the early minutes were dominated by the Bullets with Ben pressure forcing a corner followed by a Chippy run and shot.

The first half settled into a midfield battle with Aspull defender Joe resolute at the back able to suffocate the Horwich work in the middle of the park.  The Bullets formation held throughout, with Will particularly strong at the back in a performance which must have pleased the coaching staff.  In fact, it was the 16th minute before Charlie was forced into action, saving comfortably an Aspull effort.  The Bullets took the lead soon thereafter.   A strong Matty run forced a corner on the left and Chippy swung in an accurate cross which was met by Ben with a powerful header.  The 1-0 half time lead was just reward from the first half battle.

Aspull opened the second period with a more attacking formation and were soon putting pressure on the Bullets defence.  Will typified a magnificent performance just one minute into the new half as he diligently shepherded an Aspull attacker away from the goal, with Charlie easily saving the resulting shot.  Charlie had a stronger effort to cope with on 24 minutes with a stunning save, with Will clearing the resulting loose ball.  George and Matty were withdrawn to be replaced by Declan and Callum.  The Aspull pressure was intense by this stage and an incident on 27 minutes was the key talking point after the game.  With the ball loose in the penalty area, a snapshot by an Aspull attacker was sent towards the goal and hit Will at close quarters.  The perfectly-positioned referee waved away strong pleas by the Aspull coaching staff for a handball,  clearly deciding it was ball-to-hand rather than the reverse.

Aspull levelled with eight minutes to play.  A throw in from the right saw the ball penetrate deep into the Horwich penalty area to be deftly slotted home to level the game.  The goal was perhaps fair given the strong Aspull performance in this first period of the second half.  However, it was the Bullets who seized the initiative as the game drew to a close.  A superb ball from Ben on 24 minutes set Callum free, before the ball broke for Matty who drove a good effort against the post.  Matty then came off worse from a crunching challenge with five minutes to go and has he limped off to receive attention, Chippy set himself to take the resulting free kick, 12 metres from goal.  With the crowd realising this was a critical moment, Chippy stepped up and crisply drove the ball into the roof of the net.  It was a fitting winner to an excellent game.  Just as the Whites could sense victory, Aspull came close again with only an excellent tackle by Ben and a superb Charlie save keeping the Bullets in front.

The referee blew for full time with Horwich sensing the significance of this victory against one of their nearest rivals, both geographically and in a footballing context.

Late winner sees Whites retain top spot

Ladybridge City Blues 2 - 3 Horwich RMI Bullets Whites

Another epic victory for the Whites saw them move further ahead at the top of the table.   Once again, the Bullets put together a steely team performance to grab the points.   Coaches Dale and Mark opted for the settled starting line up of Charlie in goal, Will and Ben at the back, Marcus and Adam on the wings and with Chippy playing in the centre behind Matty.

The Whites started by playing some great football, with an early interchange between Adam and Chippy ending in a fine Adam shot which was turned around for a corner.   Against the run of play though, Ladybridge took the lead on eight minutes as drizzle began to fall.   A quick breakaway saw a strong low shot superbly parried by Charlie, but good follow-up play by the Ladybridge striker saw the ball stroked home for the first goal of the game.   Two minutes later a Ladybridge corner seemed goalbound, but a great save from Charlie saw the ball go over off the bar.

The Bullets were level on 10 minutes.   A wonderfully curled corner from Ben was bravely headed upwards by the Ladybridge defender, only to see Will steam forwards to head the ball into the roof of the net for his second goal in the red and white stripes.   A minute later, a great ball from Ben came to Matty at the edge of the box only for a fine last ditch Ladybridge tackle to keep the scores even.

On 15 minutes, a speculative right foot effort from Marcus was missed by the Ladybridge defender and Marcus turned to celebrate in characteristic style as the ball nestled in the corner of the net.   Just before half time, another one of a fine series of accurate lofted corners was delivered from Ben with Chippy volleying over.

The same seven kicked off the second half, although the Bullets were soon pegged back to 2-2 when a snap-shot from the Ladybridge attacker went through a crowd of players and into the goal to see the scores level.   Coach Mark then opted to ring the changes with George and Declan entering the arena for Matty and Marcus.   George was quickly into the game, holding the ball up nicely and releasing his   team mates down the wings.   A controversial moment on 25 minutes saw Charlie, Will and a Ladybridge striker clash in the Whites penalty box and the resulting loose ball was passed into the net only for the referee to call play back for a foul on Charlie.

Callum then came on with 12 minutes left of the clock to take up a central role.   George was moved to the left wing and a great jinking run in front of the Bullets supporters saw him beat four men before the ball was dispatched for a throw-in.   On 30 minutes,   Man of the Match Chippy buried a fine effort to see the Bullets take the lead once again.   Ladybridge applied some late pressure with a shot going just wide with four minutes to go and a minute later, a Charlie wonder-save from a deflected effort kept the Whites in front.   The Bullets were equal to this late pressure with Marcus holding firm in his alternative defensive role.   With Ladybridge throwing everything forward, Callum was set free with a minute to go and forced a shot just wide with the Ladybridge defenders bearing down on him.

The final whistle was met with jubilation from the visiting fans, as it signalled 15 games without defeat for the Bullets in what coach Dale described as a 'great team win'.

After a free week, the next match was away at Hindley Junior Hornets. Unfortunately due to illness and prior commitments The Crusaders could only field a squad of seven. By a stroke of luck the Hornets also only had seven.

The Crusaders started well and were in front after seven minutes, Lewis J coolly finishing when put through one on one with the keeper. However, playing into the wind made it difficult to clear the ball and the Hornets began to shoot from distance whenever they got the chance, whereas the Crusaders barely got a sight of goal and soon it was level. It remained that way until half-time due to a combination of fine keeping from Jack and wayward shooting.

After a stern talking to from Dave and Martin and with the wind at their backs The Crusaders played better in the second half with some calm defending by Sam and some powerful, if somewhat head-down, running by Lewis and Matthew. With ten minutes to go Jack was beaten again but the lads rallied well and were level, through Lewis again, within five minutes and despite some nervous moments the score remained tied to the end.

Final score Hornets 2, Crusaders 2.

For his ten crucial saves Jack received the Crusaders' Man of the Match trophy.

Well what can i say about these two teams only than when they clash in the league they always have a good hard match and this one didn`t dissapoint anyone on the day,

The first half was completely dominated by weshoughton juniors with the driving force coming from Kade Ryan and Tim Raines, who split there defence totally with law defying runs and terrific dribbling,

It was not long and we had scored a goal from Gareth Jones and then Tim Beardsworth made it 2-0 and the score settled at this at half time,

The 2nd half was run slightly different as Horwich braves came out fighting, They controlled the midfield and before long the score was 3-0

Westhoughton also gambled and put Esperant Kayonda in goal in the second half who played unbelievable not bad really as this was his first time in goal and at one point we all thought that he had sprouted wings to make some brilliant saves from Horwich,

It was just pure determination by Tim Raines on a 50/50 chance for the ball with there goal keeper that he got that vital touch to make the match 3-3

I would just like to thank both sets of teams, Parents and management and this turned out another good match between these two teams,

Westhoughton Juniors U 10's v Ladybridge Cobras U 10's

Leaders Ladybridge Cobras were the visitors to Central Drive today with Westhoughton again only having the basic seven players with inspirational captain Wes out with a knee injury. Both teams were playing some good football and honours were even in the early stages.Kynan and Zain were constantly pressuring down both flanks for Cobras and it was clear to see why they have shot ahead in the league.Molly and Ryan were playing some good football up front for the home team  in only their third game together and Ryan managed to break through a few time only to find three defenders keeping him from goal. When both sides managed to break through only excellent goalkeeping from Joel and Tom kept the scores blank.Cobras upped a gear midway through the first half and inspired midfield play from George saw the visitors race into a three goal lead.Kynan again played some excellent football down the wing but Billy swopped with James and managed to stop the talented young winger.

Half Time

Westhoughton Juniors 0 3 Ladybridge Cobras

The second half was just as good as the first with the midfield of Bas and Nick cancelled out by George and his teamates.Again only superb goalkeeping by Tom kept the score as it was. With about ten minutes and with Westhoughton starting to tire Cobras hit Westhoughton twice on the break to finish the match as a contest.Cobras could have made it six after Molly handled on the line but Westhoughton were relieved to see the penalty go past the post.Ryan had a chance of a consolation when he rounded Joel only for the ball to bobble and he shot past the post. However the hard working Ryan was not to be outdone when he cooly rounded Joel in the last minute to slot home.

Westhoughton Juniors 1 5 Ladybridge Cobras

Westhoughton played against a team today who surely will be crowned Champions at the end of the season.I have seen Cobras hit teams for nine this season but the way Westhoughton battled for sixty minutes without any subs was tremendous.Tom was excellent in goals with some top class saves and Billy gets better with every game.Ryan was buzzing up front with Molly and Bas and James were strong in midfield. But Man of the match for Westhoughton was Nick who never stopped running or shirked a tackle all day.I refereed today and Manager Andrew can be proud of the way  his players get on with the game without questioning any decisions.A minutes applause was held before the match today for an ex Ladybridge player who recently passed way and both sets of players and parents were magnificent.

Bromley Cross Crusaders v St Andrews Flames

Report:

This week's match for Bromley Cross Crusaders should have been away at St Andrew's Flames, but problems with the pitch meant a hasty rearrangement and the game took place at Walmersley.

The game proved to be an even contest with the Crusaders drawing first blood. A powerful shot by Matthew hit the bar and “fox-in-the-box” Paul was on hand to half-volley it into the net. This stung the Flames into action and within two minutes they were level following a clever short corner. The game ebbed and flowed for the next ten minutes with both keepers making important saves before the Flames broke clear to score in the 22nd minute. Within a minute however, Lewis J went on a powerful run and Matthew finished well from a few metres out.

Half Time: Crusaders 2, Flames 2.

The second half saw the Flames in a determined mood and they were soon in the lead, although the goal owed more to luck than judgement, a floated cross sailing over Jack's head to go in off the far post. The game then became more open with a number of chances at either end, a flurry of corners and one important clearance off the line by Samuel. Sam C was fully occupied taking free kicks, corners and making decisive challenges in defence and Joseph was tireless in midfield, even heading a clearance from the floor. The Flames' final goal owed nothing to luck, another well-worked short-corner was not dealt with by the Crusaders defence and the Flames' number 3 lashed an unstoppable shot just inside the near post. The Crusaders refused to accept defeat and piled pressure on the Flames' defence. Then Sam C picked up the ball in midfield, ran into space on the right wing before crossing. Matthew then helped the ball on to Paul who poached his tenth goal of the season from inside the box. As the Crusaders pressed for an equaliser they left more space at the back, Jack made another brilliant save and Bill stood up strong in a couple of one-on-one situations. With a few minutes to go Joseph hit the post and Lewis J fired narrowly wide but the equaliser did not come and the Flames were relieved to hear the final whistle.

Final score: Crusaders 3, Flames 4.

RMI took the game by the scruff of the neck early on and dominated possession leaving the Bulldogs with their backs to the wall. 2 goals from Jordan Grant and 1 from Lewis Bowdell gave RMI a 3-0 HT lead.

RMI made the result certain with a second half hat trick from Lewis Bowdell and an own goal. The Bulldogs did create a few second half chances but Steven Leigh in goal and the RMI defence were determined to keep a clean sheet.

A really good team performance with every single RMI player doing well.

Whites seal win to keep pressure on leaders

Horwich RMI Bullets Whites 2 - 1 Hindley Town

A hard-fought victory over a stubborn Hindley Town at Rivington saw the RMI Bullets Whites maintain their push to the top of the table.  Only a glancing header own goal five minutes from time separated the two teams as the Bullets reversed the score from the first day of the season.

The Bullets kicked off towards the Copse End with a familiar line-up ahead of new goalkeeper Charlie.  Matty spearheaded the attack with Marcus and Adam on the wings and with Chippy playing off the front man.  The early formation was completed with Will and Ben as a strong defensive unit.  Indeed, Horwich had the better of the early skirmishes but a sudden breakaway saw Hindley take the lead on three minutes.  Moments later another Hindley effort flashed wide as the Bullets wobbled momentarily under strong pressure.  Charlie, who was rock solid in goal for the whole game, was called into action on nine minutes when a good block saw another Hindley attempt squirm just wide.

In these early stages, the Bullets seemed to be struggling somewhat against a big Hindley side and a very bobbly pitch.  From the 13th minute, however, Horwich started to gain their composure and boss the game, typified when a marauding Chippy run forced a corner and moments later, a good break from Matty culminated with a fierce Chippy shot which went in after hitting the underside of the bar.  The two teams cancelled each other out for the remainder of the first period, and both coaches were probably satisfied to go into the half time break all square.

The second half commenced with George, Declan and Callum entering the fray and the early exchanges saw a repeat of those in the first half with the Bullets fortunate to see a Hindley effort blast wide on 22 minutes.  Chippy's influence started to come to the fore with a great shot turned away by the Town goalkeeper on 27 minutes and soon after a Chippy cross was volleyed just wide by Adam.  Ben then made a great run down the right and from the resulting corner a glancing header into his own net from an unlucky Hindley player saw the Bullets take the lead with just five minutes left on the clock.  Soon after, a slide-rule pass from George was met by Adam who blasted just wide.    With time petering out, a late assault on the Bullets goal by Hindley was neutralised by a great sliding challenge by Man of the Match Callum in his own box.

I would just like to pay credit to the Astley Bridge Taurus team, their parents and Management. Having spoken to Pat the manager of Astley Bridge Taurus, earlier in the week, he likened this match to Liverpool V Havant and Waterloo, but I informed him that it is the magic of the cup that makes teams raise their game. Astley bridge certainly did that and to be honest, were actually the better team in the first half. Score 2 - 2 at half time. Unfortunately I think they had expelled all their energy in the first half and ran out of legs. The game was played in excellent spirit on a cold snowy morning and I would like to take this opportunity to wish Astley Bridge Taurus all the best for the rest of the season.

The magic of the cup they say is when unfancied teams win against higher league opposition, this certainly was that magic, Winstanley, still finding there way in the the 1st season playing together went into a 4-1 half time lead due to flowing football using all the width of the pitch and the deadly finishing of Ryan Hargreaves, everyone played a part with Oliver Grundy winning the centre midfield battle picking up everything.

The second half started like so many of Winstanleys games so far this season, lack of concentration allowed a spirited comeback from Moss Bank, the forward play of Moss Bank produced 2 goals to bring it back to 4-3 despite Winstanley continued attacking they couldnt score a 5th goal, largely down to some great saves from the Moss Bank goalkeeper,it did eventually come though as a good move resulted in Declan Glynn pouncing on a loose ball after another Ryan Hargreaves effort was pushed aside by the keeper,at 5-3 with time running out Moss Bank gave there all and were awarded with another goal, 5-4 with minutes remaining,Winstanley held on and won the game,it was a good game to watch and both sides played fantastic, well done everyone.

The conditions for this game were wet and muddy.
It was the second time these two teams had met, the other fixture resulting in a 6-0 win for Westhoughton. From the start, Blackrod Town pressed and ran the game from midfield, where the four players shone.
Just before half time, Blackrod got the goal they deserved. Archie's fierce shot was parried by the keeper and top scorer Kyle followed up to score. In the second half, Blackrod defended well and only had one or two scares, those being dealt with by the back three and goalkeeper. There weren't many attacks for Westhoughton to defend in the second half, but they couldn't score the goal they needed.
It was a great game for a neutral and one that was enjoyed by both sets of players and fans.

Westbury Girls 0   Cmb Girls 1

The conditions for this game were excellent damp and muddy and It was the first time this season both teams had met.

Westbury got off to a excellent start and played some good attacking football with some good movement. They had quite a few chances in the first half but for some great defending by Cmb Westbury could of gone in at half time at least two nil up but one defender for Cmb stood out rock solid at the back.

In the second half Cmb came back into the game and this was a much better half for Cmb. The passing was much better and they started to put better passes together. It was at times end to end from both sides and both team displayed spirit, enthusiasm and entertainment throughout the whole second half. Halfway through the second half Cmb was putting Westbury defence under a lot of pressure when Jody had a run and had a great strike at goal but the keeper made a great stop but it came back out only for Abbie to slot it home for a deserved goal. Cmb could of increased their lead but for some great keeping from Westbury and near the end Westbury could of equalised but for some great defending from Beth, Shannon and goalkeeping. For a nuetral this was a great match to watch and well done to both team for the positive manner that it was played in well done girls.
